Rift Valley Fever Outbreak confirmed in Kabale

Outbreak of Rift Valley Fever has been confirmed in Kabale district, the Ministry of Health has said.

This follows a case of a boda voda cyclist who was working at Voice of Kigezi stage, Robert Mwesigye succumbed to the fever on 22nd July at Kabale Regional Referall Hospital where he was taken after presenting signs and sympoms of the same fever.

According to one of the cyclists at the same boda boda stage where the deceased was working, the late Mwesigye had headache, sore throat, vomiting, cough and was complaining of muscle and joint pains..

Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) at the health ministry announced that they had started hunting for contacts to the deceased.

“We appeal to the public to be vigilant to avoid contracting the disease as the Health ministry continues to carry out surveillance in the area,” Mr Ainebyoona said.

The Rift Valley fever is contacted through blood, body fluids, or tissues of infected animals, or through bites from infected mosquitoes.
