The Rotary Club of Uganda has revealed that only 10% of the UGX 18 billion required for the procurement of two fully functional Linear accelerator cancer machines is available.
The disclosure was made by the chairperson of the Rotary Cancer run, Richard Karungi during a press conference at Mengo hospital ahead of this year’s cancer run scheduled for Sunday 25th August 2019.
He said that for the 8 years of the cancer run has happened, they have managed to build the Mengo Rotary Blood Bank facility, the centenary Bank cancer center at Nsambya hospital, and saved an amount of about 1.8 billion shillings.
In preparation for cancer run, Mengo hospital will next week on Thursday 22nd August offer free cervical cancer screening to the public.
The rotary cancer run is sponsored by the parliament of Uganda, Centenary Bank, New Vision, UAP Insurance, Liquid Telecom among others.
