Museveni, US Political Affairs Undersecretary Discuss Regional Security

President Yoweri Museveni met with Victoria Nuland, the US undersecretary for political Affairs in Washington D.C and they “had a good discussion on regional security.”

According to President Museveni, they also talked about “democracy and human rights in the context of diversity and inclusion.”

President Museveni is in the U.S. for the three-day US-Africa Leaders Summit.

He left Kampala on Sunday and made a stopover in the UK where he met investors and officials in the UK government, including Andrew Mitchell, UK’s Minister of State (Development & Africa) in London.

They talked about regional peace and security among other issues of mutual interest.

He also held a business breakfast with investors, fund managers, processors of food, and large commodity buyers at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, London.

The engagement was organized by the Advisory Committee to the President (PACIED) in conjunction with the Commonwealth Enterprise Council (CWEC) and launched our agenda to market Uganda to all markets of the world and increase our global market share for our agricultural exports.

The summit aims at building on shared values and priorities as well as fostering new economic engagements.

The summit will also cover issues that include among other topics peace and security, strengthening regional and global health security, promoting food security as well as responding to the climate crisis.

President Museveni recently pointed out that he is attending the summit with the aim of getting partners to cooperate within the process of accelerating the ongoing value addition of products and also expanding and diversifying the economy citing the new industry of designing and manufacturing electric vehicles like buses and cars.

He added that with also the railway once refurbished will lower transport costs an incentive to the business fraternity.

On Tuesday, Museveni addressed a forum on sustainable health cooperation and health security.
