Effective Thursday, 19th March 2020, there will not be any fees charged for on-net mobile money transactions below Shs. 30,000 for MTN Uganda customers. This comes amid the coronavirus pandemic with Uganda’s neighboring countries having confirmed cases.
The offer will last 30 days and follows a discussion MTN Uganda had with the central bank and other bank partners to encourage the use of mobile money as opposed to using the physical cash which can likely transmit coronavirus.
There will also be no charge for the wallet to bank or bank to wallet transactions. All Momo Pay transactions to customers and merchants will be free too
In Kenya, Safaricom and Airtel waived M-Pesa fees for all transactions below Shs36,000.
