KOBs Demolish Rams To Stay On Top Of The Nile Special Rugby Premier League

After 2 games, the Kampala Old Boys Rugby Club seem to be going from strength to strength. In their opening game of the season, they obliterated newly promoted Walukuba Barbarians, 76 – 00, to stamp their presence on the 2023 Nile Special Rugby Premier League. Last Saturday, they were at it again.

Shaking off a slow start, they got well into their strides, with a Joseph Aredo penalty just outside the Rams’ 22 meter line. He soon added another, with Rams having one of their own to bring the score to 06 – 03 for the visitors.

A converted try and another try confirmed what everyone expected from the KOBs, but the Rams responded with a 40 meter dropgoal from flyhalf, Hosanna Opilleni, who was solely responsible for all their 06 points.

The game went into halftime with KOBs having a comfortable 18 – 06 lead, but all hell broke loose from there on. Pius Ogena put in a man of the match performance for the visitors, who retired back to the Legends Rugby Grounds with a 56 – 06 victory from the Makerere Rugby Grounds aka The Graveyard.

The KOBs now face an uphill task next Saturday when they host the rejuvenated Platinum Credit Heathens at Legends.

Impis not convincing against Walukuba Barbarians

In the second game of the day, The Impis hosted the Barbarians in another tie that was expected to be a one sided affair. The visitors were determined not to hand the hosts a win on the silver platter and that was manifested in how they played.

Captain and flyhalf, Bob Kawanda slotted in a penalty in the early minutes, but the Impis responded with a converted try of their own to go ahead for the first time in the game.

At the end of the day, the hosts bagged a much needed 18 – 11 win, a second of the season, to climb to third place on the log, just behind the KOBs and Black Pirates. Next, they go away to a wounded Plascon Mongers, who lost to the Jinja Hippos, in Entebbe this Saturday.
